8th – 16th March, 2015: New Zealand Study Visit (The FHEC in collaboration with the NZ Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (NZ MFAT).
A team of six staff from the FHEC visited New Zealand for a week-long study visit. Prior to the study visit, the FHEC study visit team did extensive research on the proposed partner agencies. The aims of the visit were to:
- Introduce the FHEC’s mandated tasks to the various identified agencies in New Zealand.
- Understand the workings of the various agencies and possibly create partnerships for long term collaboration to address the difficulties the FHEC currently faces.
During site visitations to the various agencies and universities, the FHEC team learned how the quality assurance of programmes at NZ universities were maintained; procedures that governing the accreditation of university programmes; and the role of the Ministry of Education with regard to strategy and policy making for higher education institutions. At the end of the visit, the FHEC team were able to identify ways in which New Zealand could assist Fiji in enhancing its approach to higher education in order to establish Fiji as a globally recognized destination for quality higher education.
