“I had never dreamed that while being in prison I would get the chance to study and receive a qualification”. That was the common sentiments of the three students who graduated with the National Certificate in Automotive Mechanic (Level 1) in a special graduation ceremony that was held at the Nasinu Corrections Centre today. The students completed the programme through the Nasinu Vocational Centre which is within the Corrections Centre. Of the three graduates, Isimeli Baleirotuma and Samuela Mocevakanananu are serving inmates while Opeti Korodrau has completed his sentence. The Fiji Higher Education Commission (FHEC) congratulates the Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) for reaching a new milestone in holding the inaugural graduation of their institution.
The FHEC has been working closely with the FCS to support the delivery of the programme. The FCS is also exploring the possibility of delivering other programmes for inmates.
