Twenty-one inaugural graduates of the National Certificate in Aged Care and Community Care (Level 3) received their certificates from the Minister for the Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. Mereseini Vuniwaqa at the Makoi Women’s Vocational Training Center (MWVTC) graduation today. This is a milestone for the institution being the first to deliver this National Qualification (NQ). This is also the first NQ to be delivered by the institution. This National Certificate is accredited on to the Fiji Qualifications Framework.
Hon. Vuniwaqa who officiated as Chief Guest says that the women’s contribution to care work, especially unpaid is massive yet largely unrecognised and the COVID situation saw the demand of care work grow and the burden mostly shifting to women.
She adds she hopes that care work will be adequately remunerated and recognised with its growing demand.
The MWVTC acknowledges the support and guidance of the Fiji Higher Education Commission (FHEC) and Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC) in the development of the curriculum for this NQ.
The 2020 graduation batch also include other 43 graduates in the Cooking and Sewing programme.
