Stakeholders Discuss TVET Policy Development

The Fiji Higher Education Commission (FHEC) in collaboration with key stakeholders from the Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC) and Fiji National University (FNU) are supporting the Ministry of Education, Heritage and Arts Department of Technology and Employment Skills Training (TEST) to begin the development of the National Policy on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). The Policy will be developed in alignment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Fijian Government 5 and 20 Year National Development Plans and in consultation with a wide range of stakeholders to provide Fiji’s TVET sector with a clear direction on how to address skills and capacity gaps both in education and employment.

An initial meeting was held on Wednesday 2nd December 2020 hosted by the APTC to begin plotting out the policy development roadmap. There was unanimous agreement to also co-opt and engage other important stakeholders to form a sub-committee that will drive the development of the National Policy and report back to the larger TVET Sector Review Committee which had also met in mid-November.
