On Wednesday 18th November 2020, the TVET Sector Review Committee met at the Fiji Higher Education Commission (FHEC) to endorse a way forward on the development of a Cabinet Paper on the proposed establishment of the Skills Council Fiji (SCF), the incorporation of Apprenticeships Fiji and other key matters. The proposed SCF will be an independent national agency tasked with coordinating Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). Its core purpose will be to support the implementation of a national TVET policy to address Fiji’s labour market needs.
One of the outcomes of the meeting was the election of the Chair and Deputy Chair of the Committee. Mr Kameli Batiweti, the Chief Executive Officer of the Fiji Commerce & Employers Federation (FCEF) and Mr Isoa Tauribau, the Acting Director of the Technology and Employment Skills Training (TEST) Department of the Ministry of Education FIJI were elected as the Chair and Deputy Chair respectively. Another key outcome was the agreement of the Committee to support the Ministry of Education’s efforts to develop the National TVET Policy which is being led by the TEST Department.
